All In A Day’s Work
By Pete Smith
How did you end up in this line of work? I bet you’ve heard that question a thousand times. While some people are living out a childhood dream, most of us have fallen into this line of work through connections and commonalities. It’s our work, and we are working for a living.
It’s great when you love what you do, but it can also be miserable when you don’t enjoy your work. Many factors contribute to our level of satisfaction and comfort with our work. Some dynamics of work are out of our control. In these scenarios, we have to roll with the punches. At the same time, so many things in our work are influenced by our choices. We should make daily work contributions that produce the kind of work we enjoy. We have to work hard at working it out!
The old song said, “I owe, I owe, so off to work I go. The Holy Scriptures remind us that if we don’t work, we don’t eat. We are all working because it is essential. We work so that we can live. The “why” we work puts everything into perspective. We all have someone or something we love that motivates us to repeat the workflow tomorrow. We will forever be working on it!
Here are some things that you can work on to make your work more enjoyable and less like work:
1. Remind yourself of all the great people and things that your work provides. This will help you approach your work with gratitude and stay focused on the rewards of working.
2. Understand that life is better together. Teamwork is what makes the dream work. We need each other, and we need to work together. Be patient with co-workers and always speak to others courteously. Respect the work of others.
If you are driving as a team, remember that no two people are alike. Give your co-workers space to be themselves and discuss a work routine that works for everyone.
3. Work with passion. Do your best and give 100%. Take pride in what you do because it reflects who you are. Your work is a product of you.
4. Don’t fall for the lie that it is better somewhere else. There are things to contend with everywhere. Make what is good great and bring solutions to situations that need change. The workplace culture is directly related to your attitude and outlook. Stay focused on your work, and don’t let others influence you negatively.
5. Don’t underestimate the power of consistency. Show up for work every day. Complete every task and assignment. Don’t quit when things get tough. Keep on working. Remember what you are working for.
It’s all in a day’s work! We do not live to work, but we work to live. Be proud of what you do for a living. You have developed a special skill set that qualifies you as a professional. Your hard work will pay off, and you can have the life you plan for. What doesn’t get done today, take care of first thing tomorrow. Let’s get moving; there is work to do!
